Praise God
For the abundance of wildlife, we are blessed to share Mason County
with. Thank you PM Township Board for having the courage to reverse
an earlier decision to conduct deer culls in the township parks.
There are many non-lethal methods available to protect flowers and
shrubs let us take personal responsibility and use them and receive
God’s blessing for doing so.

Our First Ad Notifying The Public About The Cull
If you are traveling near or live near any of these
parks use extreme caution every Thursday after 3:45 pm. There may be active
shooters in the park. Do not allow your children to ride school buses if they
travel close to these parks. These signs are only 8x16 inches in size so may not
be seen. We are doing our best to stop these culls you can help by calling the
township and tell them to stop the culls. Phone # 231-845-1277
The next time you plan to visit on of these parks
think of the deer that were first baited then murdered in them, then chose
another park for your
activity.
I recently became aware that Pere
Marquette township is conducting a cull of White-tailed deer in the townships
parks and recreational areas. I am sure you are aware, based on recent events in
Ludington that culls are very controversial and generate a lot of conflict in a
community. It seems to me that there has been an effort to keep the cull
activities secret.
As I understand it, this cull is being
manned by off duty sheriff deputies and state troopers. If this is true it will
severely tarnish the reputation of these organizations with many Mason County
residents.
I was told the culls are being conducted
in township parks. If this is true at least one of them is located in a heavily
populated area. See a list of the parks
as listed on the Township website
here.
Most culls are justified by misinformation
and outright lies and are supported by a very small percentage of the community.
You can learn a lot about culls by spending some time on other pages of this
website.
This website will soon have an entire
section dedicated to the Pere Marquette township’s cull.
The deer killed by the township do not belong to the township. In depth studies*
indicate “the summary provided by Long and his associates*) shows the highly
variable nature of dispersal distance for young non-migratory bucks. Average
dispersal distances ranged from 1.9 miles to 23.6 miles, depending upon the
amount of available forest cover.
Typically, scant forest cover contributed
to greater dispersal distance, sometimes exceeding 100 miles. Given the
available data, it appears whitetails require at least 35 percent, and possibly
as much as 50 percent, forest cover to minimize dispersal distance of young
bucks. There is a lot of published data that indicates many of the deer seen in
Pere Marquette township are transient”.

This cull activity will generate a lot of
negative publicity for the township and once initiated the resistance never
stops as there is a growing worldwide intolerance for cruelty towards other
creatures, we share this planet with. Are you aware that many of the doe you
kill are with fawn, or is that the point. What will your
children or grandchildren think when they learn you are killing baby deer?
The deer culled in the township do not
belong to the township as deer move about a lot, especially in the winter.
Wildlife along with air and water are among natural resources that are held in
“public trust.” That is, they are held in common by the citizenry and are not
property owned by individuals, governmental bodies, or corporations. This idea
was codified by ancient Romans and came to America via the Magna Carta.
Ownership is vested in the people and the custodians are Congress and State
Legislatures who are charged with managing the Public Trust for the benefit of
all citizens.
Unlike legal hunting culls engage in practices that can be described in no other
way than cruelty so people that engage in them or support them are guilty of
animal cruelty.
The resistance to the Pere Marquette
township cull will become apparent over the next few weeks. Our efforts to stop
these culls are supported by international animal rights organizations so the
publicity about these inhumane activities is disseminated far beyond the
township, county, and even the state.
If you live in the township let the board members know how
you feel
