Lets start this page with a reminder of how many Michigan communities conduct deer culls. Less than 2% are willing to participate in this travesty in 2024. If you are against deer culls you can vote with your pocketbook and avoid spending money in these towns.  And, don't keep it a secret let them know your money will be spent in deer friendly communities.

Big Rapids start culls in 2008 but did not use the USDA shooters and apparently there were problems. No data is available for the years 2008-2014.

We have cost for the following years received from the Big Rapids Police Department.

  1. 2017 $4,183.00

  2. 2021 $5,594.00

  3. 2022 $7,795.00

  4. 2023 $13,013.00

Here is another way to look at this. These 104 deer will yield about 3,850 pounds of venison at a cost of of about $ 8.00 per pound or about the same as it would cost to provide beef and more than pork or chicken. Good investment, I do not think so.
